Anaerobic Reactors
Due to the nature of the process, anaerobic digestion requires very little energy input compared with other effluent treatment systems. If the biogas is utilized as an energy source, then an anaerobic system is also a source of renewable energy.
Anaerobic reactors are particularly effective in treating readily biodegradable effluent streams. However, on its own an anaerobic reactor is not able to achieve the environmental discharge standards required by legislation. We recommend using an anaerobic system in combination with an activated sludge system (such as MBR or SBR) to achieve discharge standards. Alternatively, an aerobic system can be used to economically condition effluents prior to discharge to a municipal sewer, thereby saving on disposal charges and energy costs.
Anaerobic digesters can also be effectively used wot reduce waste sludge volumes prior to dewatering or disposal. This can have a significant cost saving benefit especially when if the biogas generated can be harnessed as a source of energy.
A2V have a developed a cost effective UASB reactor in polyethylene for use in small to medium scale applications. The UASB is well proven technology and has found widespread application in the treatment of municipal and industrial effluents.
